What is the Raj Mehta Day of Good?

The Raj Mehta Day of Good is an annual event hosted on April 15th, and it’s exactly what it sounds like—a day of doing good. It’s totally up to you what that means. You can donate to your favorite non-profit. You can show up meaningfully for a friend or loved one. You can volunteer somewhere that you enjoy. It can be as small as checking in on a friend who is struggling, or as big as running a marathon for a cause you care about. It can be doing good in your personal network, in your community, or in the world. Just wherever you are, however you want, on April 15th, do something good.

Registrants this year choose to get the 2024 Raj Mehta Day of Good sticker, designed by Sammy Allen. The sticker reflects this year’s theme, “Give me my flowers now,” and is meant to give you your flowers—thank you for choosing to do good.

About Raj

Raj Samir Mehta was a friend, son, brother, and absolute light to this world. People knew him by his “smile that could light up a room,” and his “ability to make everyone feel special.” Raj died on March 27th, 2020, but his light is not done shining. Events like this, encouraging people to do good in his memory, will bring the world a fraction of the wonderful things that Raj would’ve been doing if he was still with us.

What is this year’s theme?

Starting this year, each day of good will have a theme around it to help you explore all the different ways that doing good can be easy.

This year’s theme is “Give me my flowers now.” After Raj died, so many people shared how they appreciated him, the little things he did to make people happy, the moments where he went out of his way to show up. Every time I heard those stories, I wondered if he knew just how special he was to so many people, just how loved he was.

So now, I give people their flowers now—and for this day of good, I encourage you to do the same. Think about someone you admire, you appreciate, you love, and on April 15th, go out of your way to make sure they know that.

FAQ’s

Why April 15th?

Raj came into this world on April 15th, 2000 (a tax baby!). What better way to celebrate his birthday than to let his light shine through?

If you can’t do something on April 15th, no worries! The date is somewhat arbitrary, the whole point is finding a meaningful way to do good, however feels right to you.

How do I give people their flowers now?

Giving people their flowers now is all about ensuring that the people who make your life better know that. Here are some suggestions on how to do that, but I encourage you to get creative!

  • Write thank you notes to 5 people you appreciate

  • Give an extra tip or a little gift to your favorite barista, wait staff, or bartender

  • Buy dinner for your local fire station, library, or other community institution

  • Support a friends passion project

  • Donate to a cause a loved one cares about in their honor

Can I celebrate my loved one through this?

Yes, absolutely! If you’re also grieving the loss of a loved one, and want to spread light in their name, please do—it would be an honor to have their name known through this platform.

Is there a cost to participating?

No! There is no required cost to participate, and any money you choose to spend to do good is totally up to you. And there are a ton of free things you can do! For example

  • Donate blood

  • Volunteer at a food bank, a homeless shelter, or an animal rescue

  • Call your parents or grandparents if you haven’t in a while

  • Do a trash pickup at your local park

  • Give away that pile of clothes that’s been sitting in the back of your closet for the last 3 years

And so much more! Can’t wait to see what you come up with!

What’s up with the stickers?

Doing good can be fun, and whats more fun than stickers? It’s just a way to show that you’ve participated, and a great way to show off some incredible favorite artists. Each year will have a new design so you can collect them if you want!
